What is the difference between a Doula and a Midwife?

Hospital midwives are employed by the hospital and are bound by the hospital policies.Your Doula is employed by you so your satisfaction is paramount.Midwives are in and out of the room, changing shifts and tending to other patients and are focused on your medical care, your Doula is focused on your emotional and physical comfort at all times and will not leave unless you want her to.

Will my partner feel left out?

Some partners are concerned that the Doula will take over during labour and birth, this is not the case! A Doula doesnt just work with the woman but also her partner, whether it be as straightforward as providing food and drink or providing emotional support.Having the Doula there allows the partner to participate as much or as little as he feels comfortable with.

Can i meet with you before i decide?

Of course! My initial meeting will be free of charge.

What dont Doulas do?

Doulas do not speak for you.We provide the information so that you can make the best decision for you and your baby.Having a Doula will give you and your partner the confidenc to ask key questions about your care.

Doulas dont make medical judgements or diagnosis.

Doulas do not perform medical procedures.A Doula works with the medical team not against them.
